SWB Nicaragua TEAM Camp 2024: Join Us for a Special Soccer and Cultural Exchange Experience

Soccer Without Borders (SWB) is thrilled to announce that, after a multi-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and more, our SWB Nicaragua TEAM Camp will once again be hosting individuals to join us for a once-in-a-lifetime soccer and cultural exchange opportunity

This year’s TEAM (or "Trabajando en Equipo, Aprendemos Más”) Camp is happening over a two week period from July 14-28, 2024, and will bring together girls from across the Granada region for specially designed team-building activities, leadership workshops, and (of course) lots of soccer! Each camp celebrates and amplifies the themes of team-work, inclusion, gender equity, and so much more.

Interested in joining us in Nicaragua? We are now accepting applications!

We are currently looking for those who are not only willing, able, and excited to travel to Nicaragua, but more importantly, share a passion for helping underserved youth reach their full potential. While this opportunity is great for soccer fans, athletes, students, teachers, and coaches, there is no minimum level of soccer experience or youth development knowledge required to attend.

“Participating in a TEAM Camp Exchange is a life changing experience. I’ve been lucky to participate in six, and would recommend this experience to everyone and anyone,” exclaims Larkin Brown, current SWB Director of Monitoring and Learning and former SWB Nicaragua Director.

“When I first attended an exchange in 2010 I was struck by the scarcity of female identifying athletic role models in Granada. The exchange allowed me to learn alongside young girls who identified as athletes, and were courageous to be that authentic version of themselves even without societal support or representation of women in sports. While the landscape of women in sport has changed drastically in the past 15 years, thanks to the work of our staff in Nicaragua, the exchanges remain an opportunity for the staff at SWB in Nicaragua to share their deep set of skills and talents in sports based youth development, learn from folks participating in the exchange and share in laughter, food, and stories across cultures and languages!”

Soccer and cultural exchanges like this one are essential to the success of TEAM Camp. As a part of the SWB team you will wear many hats and support all aspects of the camp from preparation, to set-up, to equipment distribution, to coaching and playing. You will use your energy, enthusiasm, and passion for soccer to help facilitate on and off field activities for players throughout the week.

Working together as a team with local staff, you will have opportunities to get to know other passionate people, experience the city of Granada and its culture, get to know local families, participate in team-building, reflect on the meaning of authentic collaboration, and understand our work in the context of the larger sport-for-development movement.

Is this an opportunity that interests you, or perhaps would be a good fit for someone you know? Visit our website to learn details such as costs, expectations, requirements, and more. Additionally, you can help us by spreading the word about this opportunity by sharing this article with your friends, family, and colleagues!

TEAM Camp 2024 is approaching fast, so don’t hesitate to submit your application. A member of our team will promptly get back to you with the next steps and more.
