Dino Bovell Named to the SWB Board of Directors

Soccer Without Borders (SWB) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dino Bovell to the SWB Board of Directors. Dino joins us with a wealth of experience as an entertainment executive, lawyer, DEI activist, health and wellness advocate, and much more.

Now residing in Los Angeles, California, Dino earned his law degree from Indiana University Maurer School of Law and is currently a Director of Business Affairs with NBCUniversal.

Passionate about social justice, Dino is deeply committed to serving his community, particularly through advocating for greater representation by Black and Brown people in corporate leadership roles.

As we extend a warm welcome to Dino as a member of the Board of Directors, he shared his thoughts on what initially drew him to SWB and which aspects of the role excite him most:

Can you describe your personal connection with the game of soccer or with SWB’s mission specifically?

Soccer was my first love. The game has given me so much. I started playing at the age of 5 and still play to this day (albeit much more gingerly). Growing up in suburban New York as a first-generation brown kid, the soccer field was one of the few places where I felt at ease and that “I belonged”. Soccer is foundational to my identity and my relationship with my father, and very much informs the sense of discipline I bring to my continued wellness. I am living proof that soccer is a catalytic vehicle for change, so getting involved with SWB felt like a natural fit.

How did you first get involved in or connected to SWB?

To give a very 2024 answer, I found SWB through an online Google search. I have previously and currently serve on nonprofit boards operating at a more local level or in academia, and have wanted to participate in a cause / with an organization driving impact on a global scale. After I found SWB, I sent a cold LinkedIn message to SWB’s board chair outlining my commitment to service and love of soccer. Following an introductory conversation with Erin Cook, I was invited to meet with other members of the board and several weeks later, much to my delight, was asked to join the Board of Directors.

What inspires you to continue to be a part of SWB?

Service is core to who I am. One of my foremost passions is working to facilitate positive outcomes for, and expand the reach and influence of, Black and Brown people. SWB is already doing that work. I want to contribute to and amplify SWB’s mission in whatever ways I can.

What are you looking forward to most about joining the Board of Directors?

So many things! Partnering with and learning from my fellow board members, meeting with the youth, driving impact, and, of course, hopefully playing some soccer.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I am so grateful for this opportunity and the warmth the board has extended to me. I can’t wait to see and experience SWB up close.

Welcome Dino, we’re glad you’re here!
