Soccer Without Borders is thrilled to announce our membership in the Common Goal Community. Common Goal is a movement to unite the global football community in tackling the greatest social challenges of our time. The Common Goal Community is the next iteration of the global network, streetfootballworld, which Soccer Without Borders has been a member of since 2012.
Common Goal began with a simple idea to have members pledge 1% of their earnings to a central fund, which would then be reinvested into high-impact organizations that harness the power of football to advance the United Nations Global Goals. Juan Mata was the first to take the pledge in 2017, and has since been joined by hundreds of professional players, businesses, media figures, coaches, clubs, brands, and executives including SWB Advisory Board member and Penn State Women's Soccer Associate Head Coach Ann Cook.

Common Goal has already elevated 58 organizations and 8 collective projects with these funds, including Global Goal 5 Accelerator, Play Proud, and the Anti-Racist Project, all of which include Soccer Without Borders. At the onset of Covid-19, Common Goal mobilized additional resources to create the Covid-19 response fund, which supported organizations around the world, prioritizing those that lacked access to local Covid response resources, including SWB Nicaragua.
The transformation of the streetfootballworld network into the Common Goal Community unites the business and professional world of football more directly with the football-for-development global community, elevating our shared purpose. Soccer Without Borders Co-Founder Mary Connor served on the network board of streetfootballworld throughout the transformation process. She reflects, "The transition to bringing together the Common Goal members with the network member organizations is a meaningful step toward unifying a vision of a more sustainable and inclusive world through football. We are proud to be a part of this Community alongside so many amazing organizations and people converting the potential of football into tangible contributions toward the SDGs."
