Cambridge, MA— Senda Athletics, a global leader in producing premium quality Fair Trade Certified soccer balls, has renewed its partnership as the “Official Game Ball” of Soccer Without Borders. Senda was started with a clear goal: disrupt the industry by embracing Fair Trade, bringing back craftsmanship, promoting joyful play, and improving lives along the way. Since its very beginning, Senda has built its B-Corps business model around “1% for the game” providing equipment and funding for non-profit partners, of which Soccer Without Borders is one.
Recently, a movement out of Europe known as “Common Goal” has emerged to reshape the business of global soccer (football). With three billion football plans worldwide, it is the world’s largest social phenomenon. Led by Manchester United’s Juan Mata in partnership with the global network streetfootballworld, Common Goal mobilizes the games wealthiest participants - players, coaches, managers - to give back 1% of their salaries into a collective fund that supports community development programs like Soccer Without Borders. The scale of the Common Goal project has the potential to be unprecedented. But the idea that the football industry might consider building a give back into their very DNA...that’s something Senda has done from the start.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Senda Athletics as our official game ball,” said Mary McVeigh, Executive Director of Soccer Without Borders. “We hope that soccer and the global football industry can drive positive social change by looking in the mirror at every level and aiming to do better. Senda is a company that is committed to Fair Trade, great products, and keeping the game accessible to all who love it.”
A Berkeley-based B corp, Senda has been a longtime partner of SWB Oakland and became the Official Game Ball of Soccer Without Borders in 2016.
“Our goal is to help bring back the classic or romantic version of the game we love,” said Senda Athletics Founder, Santiago Halty. “It is a game that involves expressing oneself, building community, and creating moments of pure joy.”
To commemorate the partnership, Senda is offering SWB fans a 20% discount on all products, using code: SWB2017 at www.sendaathletics.com
